When Bill Weston and Darin Bellham failed to find suitable, healthier products for their dogs, they decided to do their own research. In 2003, they opened WAGZ Natural Food for Dogs & Cats in Courtenay with assistance from Community Futures. The store offered wholesome food options and quality, healthy accessories for furry family members all over Vancouver Island.

In 2007, Wendy Scott became a partner in the business, and, due to high community demand for healthy choices, WAGZ moved to a larger location, more than doubling its retail space. That year, the new brand — WAGZ Lifestyles for Dogs & Cats — was also launched. Even with the disruption of the move and the transition to a new brand, sales increased by 30 per cent that year.

Today, the popularity of WAGZ continues to grow and our three WAGZ Specialists are kept busy helping clients to choose the best options for their faithful companions. And Teddy, Fergus, Hamish, Ziggy and Jake the dogs take turns to welcome both our two- and four-legged customers.
